New York City Events for the Week of October 13th

This week is New York Spa Week, so get out and get cheap spa treatments for less at some of the best spas in the city. This event starts on the 13th and ends on the 19th.

Monday 13: So fall is upon us, and that means few beautiful days to spend outside in a park…and fewer days to even go to a festival. Bowling Green Association Festival, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. On Broadway and Cedar to Battery, Manhattan.

Tuesday 14: Want to listen to some Latin music to spice up your life? How about spending the night at Lava Gina listening to live music? From 9:00 pm to midnight. Lava Gina, 116 Ave C (between E. 7th & 8th Streets), Manhattan, (212) 477-9319. 21+.

Wednesday 15: Anne Frank is visiting New York in the form of photos. Anne Frank: A Private Photo Album is a traveling exhibit that will remain in the city until the last day of the year, but why pass up a perfectly good Wednesday in the city? Go see it. The Anne Frank Center, 38 Crosby Street (between Grand and Broome Streets), Manhattan, (212) 431-7993.

Thursday 16: The Light the Night Walk starts tonight. There are two locations to sign up for, but only the Manhattan walk is tonight. In order to join the walk, you must sign up online or call this number first: (212 532-5054). Check-in starts at 5:30 pm. South Street Seaport/Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan.

Friday 17: Feeling frightful this Friday? Why not check out a haunted house! Especially one that claims to “scare the hipster right out of you.” Nightmare: Bad Dreams Come True and its sister attraction, Nightmare: Legends, are supposedly two awesome haunted houses. From 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. CSV Cultural Center, 107 Suffolk Street (between Delancey and Rivington Streets), Manhattan, (212) 929-2963. Tickets are $30 (but one ticket gets you into both houses).

Saturday 18: The second Light the Night Walk is tonight in Queens. If you want to sign up, follow the same procedure as the one shown on Thursday. Forest Park, Queens.

Sunday 19: This is your last chance to see the exhibit Photography on Photography: Reflections on the Medium Since 1960. The show is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on the second floor, 1000 Fifth Avenue (at 82nd Street), Manhattan, (212) 535-7710.

Remember: If going into the city on a Saturday or Sunday, SLC students can sign up for the Met Van, which is free and drops off/picks up riders in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Van leaves Andrews Parking Lot at 11 am and 1 pm both days, and students can sign up outside the Student Affairs office (2nd floor of Bates).
