She enters late; her step is proud —
Aloof. She draws her ermine cloak
Tighter, as to keep the crowd
Away — for there are colored folk.
She does not see this dusky child
With woolen shawl about her throat,
Whose deep brown eyes are sad and wild
As music sings of lands remote.
