Poetry is

not what you are reading.
Sure, it is
what is
on the page,
but not the words
so much,
or at all.

It’s not the balsam
by the brook,
the gray brook,
with reflections
of cumulus,
it’s not that at all.

But
it is
a pretty good
stand-in,

which is why,
after all,
having read it
is enough to say
you have seen it.

You have.
You have.
